History

A stone column at the crossroads Königswiesen - Ottenschlag - Ebenedt dates from the time of the Thirty Years' War, 1618 to 1648. There are two different oral traditions about the origin of the "Pflegkreuz", which was erected in 1631: A Swedish captain by the name of Pfleg is said to have met his death at this spot. When the marble was moved to a new location at a later date, spearheads, bullion and coins from the time of the Swedish wars were discovered, confirming this tradition. The other tradition tells that so-called "carers" had to collect taxes from the population. Perhaps a "keeper" was killed in the process and this stone pillar has marked his final resting place ever since.
