No other food plays such a prominent role in all our lives, in everyday life, in cultures, religions and not least in the use of language.  The PANEUM - Wunderkammer des Brotes takes us on a journey into this fascinating world. From the invention of bread to the diversity of bread today. Art and cultural objects from 9000 years and many parts of the world invite you to marvel and listen. Immerse yourself in the history and stories of bread. PANEUM is an experience that touches all the senses. An exhibition that opens your eyes, ears, mouth and mind to the wonder of bread.

Egyptian grain mummies and toy cars, Peruvian totem poles and Meissen porcelain, Chinese granaries, guild tools, paintings and thousands of books - the collection that forms the foundation of the PANEUM spans both the world and time. And it has only one unifying element: bread.
 
The collection traces its development in two ways. On the one hand, it takes us on a journey through time and space, from the probably accidental "invention" of bread in the Neolithic Age, through Egyptian sophistication and Roman efficiency, medieval bakers' pride and modern industrialization, to today's almost immeasurable variety of bread. On the other hand, the collection shows how the journey of bread begins in the grain field and continues via the mill and bakery to our homes. The stages along this path have not changed over the millennia and yet nothing has remained the same. This can also be felt in the PANEUM.
