A decisive impetus for the founding of the "Heimatverein Perg" was the uncovering of the prehistoric burial ground in Auhof near Perg. This was excavated in the years 1965-1968 by Prof. Dr Ämilian Kloiber (1910-1989) of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum using the simplest of tools by today's standards. The local population took an active interest in the excavation and recovery work and awakened an interest in the history of their closest homeland in some of them, who lent a helping hand. In 1967, they founded the Perg Local History Association, which is now an active cultural organiser in Perg as the Perg Local History and Museum Association.
The Perg Heritage Society makes a valuable contribution to the cultural life of the town of Perg through various club activities. Excursions to the surrounding area, annual general meetings, lectures in words, pictures and sound, readings, autumn trips and two special exhibitions a year on interesting topics, hikes and guided tours of the town are always popular events.
