The Sauwald - a wonderful cultural landscape

On the field paths to Hötzmannsdorf, the Sauwald high plateau presents itself to us from its most beautiful side: a mosaic of fields and meadows, extensive forests, traditional farming hamlets, undulating landscape, ... - simply an experience!

A bench next to a granite marmot invites you to enjoy the landscape. For all its beauty, this cultivated landscape also tells of rural reclamation, as it was wrested from the Sauwald forest by industrious hands over centuries - a legendary achievement, isn't it?
By the way: The Sauwald is a narrow high plateau that stretches south of the Danube between Passau and Eferding. Geologically speaking, it is part of the Bohemian Massif, but was separated from the northern part by the Danube.
