Höhenort Stadl

Stadl – the highest elevated town in the Innviertel region! 

The small village Stadl is located on the plateau of the southern branch of the Haugstein. On an altitude of 726 m it is the highest town of the Innviertel region! The town centre encompasses a wonderful church and some detached houses – pure country idyll.
 
The high location also had is price. In former days the residents had to walk for up to two hours to attend church mass in Engelhartszell, St. Aegidi or St. Roman. That’s the reason why they already constructed their own church around 1860. However, its acknowledgement took place as late as in 1905!
During its construction a lot of creativity was needed due to the lack of money: the granite blocks were brocken of the Haugstein and Schöfberg and the bricks were extracted close to the Leidinger Wiese…On 9th August 1906 the church cross was finally put up. Today the church stuns with its magnificent details and simplicity. It conveys country piety and authenticity – just a must-see!
