Nature trail

Hohenzell, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Visitors interested in natural history can deepen their knowledge on the nature trail at Pfarrerhölzl. Pfarrerhölzl, south-east of Ried im Innkreis, is one of the few places where the life cycle of a natural deciduous forest can still be observed today. The wildlife that has found its habitat in this little paradise is correspondingly diverse.

The hillside location of this forest area of around one hectare has made it impossible to use it as a commercial forest. Nature has thanked us for this. And so the young trees are still growing up here under the protection of their "parents". Mighty oaks more than 200 years old stand next to the emerging young woodland. In between, the dead wood of naturally dead trees rots. This creates a paradise for animals, which gratefully accept this near-natural habitat. A wide variety of insects and birds have made the Pfarrerhölzl their home. Woodpeckers feel just as at home here as bats and small mammals.
