Pfarrkirche Reichenthal "Mühlviertler Dom"

It is not for nothing that Reichenthal's parish church is also known as the "Mühlviertel Cathedral". The imposing building, which characterises the town, is the largest parish church in the Mühlviertel. A curious fact: when construction of the new church began in 1890, it was simply built around and above the old one. The old church was used as scaffolding. Only later was the old church demolished. The neo-renaissance style church was completed in 1984. It is considered a major work of ecclesiastical historicism in Upper Austria. The Reichenthal church is also known for its excellent acoustics.

7 DEADLY SINS PULPIT

The pulpit in the parish church of Reichenthal is supported by a tree trunk around which a giant snake winds. This fans out into seven necks, at the end of which sit human heads. Each of these seven heads symbolises one of the seven deadly sins - arrogance, unchastity, sloth, envy, intemperance, avarice and anger. The 7 Deadly Sins Pulpit was created in 1895/96 in the workshop of the Linz sculptor and altar builder Ludwig Linzinger. It is considered a very important artistic achievement of ecclesiastical historicism.
