Built around 1380, the complex combines several eras. It was characterised by the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Owned by the Grundemann von Falkenberg family since 1636. Today Waldenfels continues to serve as a family residence and in recent years has increasingly become a venue for events.
The fortunes of the market town of Reichenthal have been linked to Waldenfels Castle since it was built. The close connection between the town and the castle is also expressed in the market coat of arms with the hunting falcon of the count's family.
