Rastplatz Reichenbach/Teufelskapelle

Steyregg, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Winding streams and yellow dragons...
A stream that follows its natural course, is allowed to meander and is accompanied by natural vegetation, is unfortunately something of a rarity. All the more reason to enjoy it, as it is not only pleasing to the eye, but also an important habitat. Baffle banks are formed, providing possible nesting sites for the kingfisher. The fire salamander also feels at home in the presence of near-natural streams and forests. It takes its name from an old superstition that it could extinguish fires, which led to its persecution. Today, the attentive hiker will be delighted to see one of the little dragons in rainy weather, as it is already threatened by habitat loss.

A farmer's wife once lived in Steyregg, where even the servants had the best food every day (even on weekdays). This was strange, as the farm did not yield as much as she distributed - a farmhand discovered her secret. The Danube legend "Spei Butter und Fleisch!" tells the whole story.
