Astrolabium
Peuerbach, Oberösterreich, Österreich

- Suitable for groups
In memory of the renowned astronomer, mathematician and poet Georg von Peuerbach.
The Rathausuhr clock is an enlarged replica of the astrolabium designed by Georg von Peuerbach in 1457. The original is displayed at the German National Museum in Nuremberg. Astrolabium instruments served as a means to determine the distances to the stars and to describe orbits long before the invention of the telescope and pendulum clock. They were also used to determine geographic positions.
Georg von Peuerbach built the first dependable fob watch and developed the sine and cosine functions.
