The OÖ. Scythe Museum in Micheldorf is located at the site of the former "Scythe Forge am Gries" from the 16th century. Micheldorf was the starting point and centuries-long center of the Austrian scythe industry with its 15 scythe factories. Scythes were produced here on an industrial scale long before the "Industrial Revolution" and were exported millions of times worldwide. This special blacksmithing craft has been part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014.
In order to do justice to this unique heritage, the Scythe Museum is currently undergoing comprehensive renovation and redesign.
Interested visitors are offered exciting insights behind the scenes of a museum construction site due to the ongoing work.
 

The company reached its greatest prosperity under Caspar Zeitlinger
(1798-1866) - he rose to become one of the most important entrepreneurs in the country. The authentically preserved buildings and numerous original objects of the scythe smith museum make it possible to immerse oneself in this bygone era.
 
To this day, the entire region benefits from this rich history:
The foundation of numerous associations and social institutions can be traced back to initiatives of the scythe smithy. Above all, however, the emergence of the numerous metal- and plastic-processing companies would have been inconceivable without the well-trained skilled workers who can be traced back to the old small iron industries, especially the scythe industry.
