Pöstlingbergbahn-Museum

A museum that provides information about the history of the popular train.
The information center is small, but very appealing, combining the history and the present of the Pöstlingbergbahn. Various elements distributed around the space highlight the contrast between the historical circumstances and new, modern material. Essential information about various topics such as history, technology, and the historical and new vehicles is presented using posters. Fans of the old mountain railway will find here rails, pantographs and boards as well as a shaft with sprocket and a clasp brake.

The combination of the historical ambience with contemporary technology gives interesting insights without impinging on the impression of the building. Variable information and interactive systems cover the various interests of the visitors.

The former ticket office has been turned into a small cinema hall, where visitors can learn about the old and the new Pöstlingbergbahn on a 50 inch monitor. The history is presented by the Grottenbahn mascot, Sebastian, who guides viewers through the film as an animated cartoon figure.

A particular highlight is the driving simulator. A replica of the driver's cab along with a crank allows a simulated trip on the old mountain train from the top of the Pöstlingberg hill down into the city.
