Due to the current situation, the Calvary church is closed until further notice.
At the end of Hallstatt, above the main road, there is an extremely beautiful, baroque building. We are talking about the romantic church on the mountain - also better known as the Calvary church.
Baroque art in Hallstatt
Around 24.000 curved larch shingles were necessary to save the Calvary Church in the World Heritage town Hallstatt. The curved roof shape was renewed true to the original a few years ago. The church dates from 1711 and was donated together with the Chapels of the Cross by a childless couple of court clerks who also wanted to have their final resting place there.
Ideal starting point for a Hallstatt tour
As the Calvary church is located in the immediate vicinity of the public car park P1, it is an ideal starting point for a tour of Hallstatt.
From above you have a wonderful view of the historical town and the fjord-like Lake Hallstatt, before you start your own discovery tour through the World Heritage town.
