Franz Jägerstätter was born on 20 May 1907 in St. Radegund to a single farmer's maid. The loving upbringing of his grandmother, his poverty and religious readings shaped the adolescent. The fact that he strictly refused the second call-up by the National Socialists due to his religious beliefs made him a tragic national hero. He was sentenced to death for refusing military service and beheaded in Brandenburg/Mavel on 9 August 1943.

Franz Jägestätter became a national hero!

Franz Jägerstätter was born on the 20th of July, 1907 in Radegund. He lived in poverty together with his grandmother who taught him the religious principles of life. As he refused to do his military service during World War II he became a national hero. He was sentenced to death and decapitated on August 09, 1943 in Brandenburg/Mavel.

The urn of Franz Jägerstätter can be found in the exterior church wall. Today the former residential building of the Jägerstätter family is a memorial site and can be visited by prior arrangement.
