Partenstein Power Station

Welcome to the Partenstein storage power station.

Partenstein was not only the largest power station at the time, but also the most modern. Many technical innovations had their premiere here.



Until the end of the 19th century, wood from the Bohemian Forest and the upper Mühlviertel was floated down the Große Mühl to the Danube. Then the power of the water began to be utilised to generate electricity.

The Partenstein power station was designed by the famous Art Nouveau architect Mauriz Balzarek. The typical industrial architecture of the turn of the century blends harmoniously into the narrow basin of the Mühltal valley. A baroque fountain next to the powerhouse and a statue of St John Nepomuk right next to the bridge originate from the former Langhalsen Castle.
