The Schmollgruber Iron Clock Museum is temporarily closed!

As early as in the 14th century the town of Steyr was home to gifted goldsmiths and clockmakers.

"Friedrich the Goldsmith" first appeared in historical records around 1350.
In the early 17th century skilful and elaborate iron clocks were produced in Steyr. Among the most famous clockmakers of this time is "Johann Mayr of Steyr".
The Schmollgruber House on the Steyr downtown square is deeply rooted in tradition and history. It was named after Friedrich Schmollgruber who revived the building with its original function.
Steyr was the hub of Austria's iron industry for centuries and the legacy of this thriving trade can be admired in the workshop for antique clocks and the special Iron Clock Museum.
