The castle Prandegg is the second largest and best-preserved ruins in Upper Austria in a commanding location on a ridge in the Waldaisttal.

The castle area covers 2,435 m², with a length of 150 m. The striking, accessible round tower with a height of 23 m offers a wonderful view.

Prandegg was a base for reclamation and clearing in the 12th century. The castle changed owners several times, who came from important families of lords and knights. It belonged to the powerful Jörgern from 1534 to 1631 and was described in old sales documents as "strong and well provided". The chambers were described as "summery, airy and light" (1631).

The following Scherffenberger and Salzburg left Prandegg uninhabited. The castle quickly fell into disrepair and was already described as a ruin in 1786. In 1823 it became the property of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and has remained so to this day.

Since 1996, the Prandegg Castle Association has been working with many volunteers to preserve the castle. The rehabilitation measures are being carried out in close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office of Upper Austria.

Castle tours are possible after consultation with the castle association.
