The storks in the market town of Saxen have occupied their own stork nest on the roof of the primary school since 1964.
These birds' nests can be four metres high and weigh up to two tonnes. The stork is even the heraldic animal in Saxen's municipal coat of arms, testifying to the long, peaceful history shared by animals and humans. The wet meadows around Saxen are home to the white stork. This area is their main feeding ground.
