Take a break from the hectic pace of everyday life, don’t rush from one place to the next—consciously set aside a few hours to linger.

Finding peace in the quiet of the church and enjoying hospitality in a friendly atmosphere—this is good for both body and soul.

Parish pilgrimages, senior citizens, the KFB, school classes, or clubs—with or without an accompanying priest—are warmly welcome. Registration is requested.

As much as we appreciate the benefits of our prosperity, we recognize that it alone cannot satisfy our longing for the meaning of life. People embark on pilgrimages because they are searching for something: clarity for their lives, comfort, and help with life’s difficult challenges—there are many reasons that move people to set out on the journey and make a pilgrimage to a place of grace. No one walks the path alone; we are part of a greater whole, part of a story that has a good destination.

The pilgrimage church itself was built between 1860 and 1863. The church was solemnly consecrated on October 28, 1863. In 1867, Maria Schmolln became its own parish. In 1880, the Chapel of Grace was added to the pilgrimage church. It houses the miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1735, to which the origins of the pilgrimage and our town of Maria Schmolln can be traced. The interior of the church, which was completely renovated in the early 1990s—including new furnishings for the high altar and side altars—was solemnly consecrated on October 17, 1993. In recent years, a modern pilgrim fountain—commemorating the origins of the pilgrimage—and a peace monument featuring St. Francis have been erected.
