Arboretum St. Roman

St. Roman, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The St. Roman Arboretum is a botanical garden for trees and shrubs covering an area of 3.7 hectares. This special wooded area is located around three kilometres outside the centre of St. Roman and is particularly worth seeing in May and June when the rhododendrons are in bloom. A wide variety of rhododendron species, forms and hybrids as well as various fir, maple and other tree and shrub species can currently be viewed. Unlike most other botanical gardens, the St. Roman Arboretum is a forest or woodland. The tiered, multi-layered structure also provides a habitat for regeneration, shrubs and other ground plants as well as birds, insects and other animal species. The name arboretum is derived from the Latin. (arbor = tree).
Admission:freely accessible
Note:The car park and starting point for the hike to the arboretum is the "Zum grünen Baum" inn in the village of Au.
