Lake Höllerersee is located in the district of Braunau in Upper Austria on the border with the province of Salzburg. It is 0.2 square kilometres in size and around 21 metres deep. The Höllerersee is a marvellous swimming lake. It is surrounded by forests and therefore protected from the wind. As a result, the lake has a pleasant temperature and good water quality. Due to the great depth of the lake in relation to its surface, a rare phenomenon occurs: from a depth of around ten metres, the deeper water does not mix with the water above. The lake is only fed by groundwater, there are no outflows. Fishing is one of the most popular leisure activities on Lake Höllerersee. There are carp, tench, bream, whitefish, pike, zander, eel, perch, lake trout, catfish and various species of whitefish in the lake. In winter, Lake Höllerer See is ideal for ice skating or curling.
