Grieskirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The municipal area of Grieskirchen covers 11.7 km². With its city center, Grieskirchen is located in Upper Austria, on the northern bank of the Trattnach at an elevation of 334 m.

Grieskirchen plays a very significant role as the center of 34 municipalities in the district. Grieskirchen, the district capital and shopping center of the region, has around 5,000 inhabitants. The economic strength and thus the jobs are secured by a globally known agricultural machinery and vehicle industry, as well as modern heating technology. From agricultural products, flour, malt, and the Grieskirchen beer are produced. Blacksmithing and high-quality jewelry also shape the city, which is also home to the Lobmeyr family, later manufacturers of world-famous chandeliers and glasses. The crafts are diverse and of high quality.

Undoubtedly, gastronomy is also one of the highlights of Grieskirchen. Two top-rated restaurants and many trendy spots significantly enhance the offerings.

The largest events of the year include the Landlwoche, the horse market, the Christmas village with the artistically designed Advent calendar on the town hall facade, the Höllenfeuer, and a cultural highlight on National Day.

With numerous measures, Grieskirchen aims to further position itself as the center of the region and set decisive accents in economic, cultural, educational, and social aspects.
From 2001 to 2004, the city was redesigned. The cityscape has undergone significant enhancement through various measures. Special attention was paid to family-friendly design.
Various design elements (flowing water, floral arrangements, resting benches) and more greenery (26 new trees in the center) create a family-friendly, cozy, and inviting atmosphere. Generously designed relaxation zones invite visitors to linger and chat. A newly designed street lighting not only brings romance and flair to the district town of Grieskirchen but is primarily intended to ensure the safety and protection of the citizens.

The new traffic concept focuses on traffic calming and safety. Level sidewalks and walkways ensure barrier-free travel with strollers and wheelchairs. A 30 km/h zone throughout the center, along with generously expanded sidewalks and paths, ensures greater safety and movement space for pedestrians. With the construction of a bypass to the west, heavy traffic in the center will significantly decrease.
A moderate and customer-oriented parking management (first 15 minutes free!) ensures enough parking spaces in the center.

The creation of a new district in Parz in low-energy construction, a facility for heat generation from biomass, the establishment of a school center with technical and sports facilities, the realization of a technology center, as well as an industrial area with two neighboring municipalities in a municipal association and diverse cultural events are the main approaches to lead Grieskirchen into a vital, future-oriented, and livable city.
