Our Story

The roots of the Grellinger pastry shop date back to 1878, when Ferdinand Zehden founded Gmunden's oldest pastry shop. Just ten years later, Jean Grellinger took over the business - equipped with excellent expertise and international experience, including at Rumpelmayer in Nice and Demel in Vienna. Together with his wife Hermine, who trained at the prestigious Gerstner house in Vienna, he laid the foundation for the café and confectionery tradition still upheld today.

Soon, the pastry shop became the royal-ducal purveyor to numerous princely houses in exile – including the Cumberland-Hanover, Brunswick-Lüneburg, the Spanish Bourbons, and the House of Tuscany, which had its residences on Lake Traunsee.
