Day 1: Individual travel to Agatha on Lake Hallstatt
Travel by car or public transportation to sun-drenched Agatha, a suburb of Bad Goisern. This charming town, with its outstanding location on Lake Hallstatt, attracts vacationers who love sports and adventure. Depending on your arrival time, it’s worth visiting the Craft House in Bad Goisern, where traditional, time-honored craftsmanship is vividly showcased. You’ll receive your travel documents at the hotel. (7 nights)
Day 2: Bike tour along the mystical Lake Hallstatt
The section along the eastern shore of the lake—which resembles a Norwegian fjord—is unspoiled, offering a breathtaking view of the Dachstein Mountains and their glaciers, along with a spectacular route. The flank of the Sarstein drops almost vertically into the lake here, and the elevated path hovering above the water gives the impression of riding right over the water. The bike path leads through Obertraun—where you can visit the Dachstein Ice Cave or Mammoth Cave—on to Hallstatt. The nearly perfect blend of narrow alleys, historic houses, the lake panorama, and the cultural heritage from the Hallstatt period is not only worth seeing but also makes this place world-famous. After a full day, you’ll head back to Agatha for the night.
Bike route: approx. 30 km; elevation gain/loss: 357/357 m
Day 3: Out on the Water by Canoe – New Perspectives on the World Heritage Site
The canoe trip along the tranquil shores of Lake Hallstatt offers plenty of variety. Sandbars and peninsulas are particularly attractive destinations during a boat tour. After a brief introduction to maneuvering the canoe, you’ll explore the tranquil lake. The view of the Dachstein Massif from the lake is particularly striking—a perspective well worth taking the time to appreciate. From the water, with careful attention and caution, you can also spot various animals.
Canoe trip including introduction: approx. 3 hours
Day 4: Gosau Forest Adventure Park
The Forest Adventure Park in the Gosau Hintertal offers numerous outdoor experiences for the whole family. The
large area between the Gosau Open-Air Museum and the Vorderen Gosausee is a unique
nature experience that playfully combines forest knowledge, physical activity, and mindful awareness.
Off the beaten path, visitors can experience the forest in all its facets: a
low-rope and high-rope course for the whole family. A total of 7 courses with 73 challenges await you.
The facility is equipped with the most modern safety system—an introductory session is, of course,
included
Day 5: OPTIONAL: Hike with an overnight stay in a mountain hut (Option 1)
or a day of your own choosing (Option 2)
Option 1: Hike to the Goisererhütte on the Kalmberg Massif (2-day program)
From Bad Goisern, the trail follows the forest road to the Trockentannalm and then passes the Sperrerhütte, the Niedere Scharten-Alm, and the “Dichtlerin,” a spring. The location of the Goisererhütte at the foot of the Hoher Kalmberg is breathtaking. It’s also worth taking a detour to the small Kalmoos Church. Tucked away in a rock cave, it served as a place where Protestants secretly held services during the Counter-Reformation. Enjoy the end of the day at just under 1,600 meters in the Salzkammergut Mountains (you must bring your own luggage and hut sleeping bag for the overnight stay!).
(1 night at the Goisererhütte).
Hike: approx. 4 hours (6 km, ascent: 1,083 meters / descent: 10 meters)
Option 2: Plan your own day (suggestions):
Trip to Gosau
- Circular hike around Lake Gosau,
- Hike to the Zwieselalm (with cable car ride up),
Trip to Bad Goisern:
- Hike along the Traunreiterweg trail, ideal for families,
- along the Figuren- und Sagenweg trail, an excursion with a breathtaking view of the valley,
- Our TIP: Archery on the 3D course
Day 6: Descent from the Goiserer Hütte back to Agatha (Option 1)
Hike: approx. 3.5 hours (6 km, descent: 1,083 m elevation loss / ascent: 10 m elevation gain)
following the same route for both the ascent and descent
Free day (Option 2)
Depending on the weather, there are hikes of various lengths in the surrounding area. Or perhaps the lake is already tempting you to go for a swim? Swimming spots are within walking distance of Agatha. However, for those who would like to explore other well-known destinations in the Salzkammergut, the following excursions are recommended:
- to the imperial town of Bad Ischl, which invites you to stroll around or visit the thermal baths,
- to Lake Wolfgang, featuring a boat ride across the lake and a visit to the famous resort town of St. Wolfgang with its well-known pilgrimage church of the same name, as well as a stop at the traditional inn “Weißes Rößl”
Day 7: In the Realm of the Koppenbrüller Cave
The Northern Limestone Alps are known for their extensive cave systems. Near Obertraun lies the Koppenbrüller Cave, which we’ll explore today. It’s located in the core zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the few caves still active in the Dachstein region. Especially in the spring, water roars out of it with a tremendous roar. Even from a distance, you can hear the “roar” that gave it its name. During the guided cave tour, you’ll gain impressive insights into the underground waterways within the Dachstein as well as the cave’s formation.
The cave is located in the valley and can be reached by a short walk along a well-maintained hiking trail that follows the wild and romantic Traun River.
Cave tour: approx. 1.5 hours
Day 8: Individual departure or extended stay
If you have the opportunity to extend your stay, there is still plenty more to discover, and additional nights can be booked. How about, for example, a visit to the Salt Worlds in Hallstatt? Immerse yourself in the distant past of the Hallstatt period and visit salt production sites that were already in use over 7,000 years ago. Otherwise, your return trip will take place in the morning.
