Theater - Architecture - Art

The Historic City Theater of Grein (1791) is Austria’s oldest surviving civic theater and part of the European Route of Historic Theaters, boasting a vibrant theatrical tradition dating back to 1791—a cultural and historical gem. There are many unique features to see:

Original box seats; a restroom separated from the auditorium only by a curtain; the Napoleon Box; and much more.
In the newly redesigned City Museum, you can learn more about the city’s eventful history and the theater’s history from its beginnings to the present day.

The City Theater hosts performances every year from March through December.
Guided tours are available year-round by appointment.
