Back to the roots ...
The "5th Walk the Lake" on Saturday, October 17, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. will be the "overture" to the 54th International Wolfgangsee Run. This also marks a return to the roots of the event, which originated from the IVV Volkswandertagen, which were very popular in Austria at the time.

At the "Walk the Lake" with start and finish at the picturesque "Brunnwind" restaurant - which is located directly on Lake Wolfgangsee (Mondseestraße 12, 5340 St. Gilgen) - the "entry hurdle" is deliberately set low - so the time achieved is completely irrelevant. Despite chip timing, there is no ranking - but there is a finisher medal, a personal certificate to download, an alphabetical ranking and a number of starter goodies.

Due to the very good response in recent years, there are four distances to choose from this year: 8.5 km (St. Gilgen - St. Wolfgang municipal office); 14 km (St. Gilgen - TVB Strobl); 18.5 km (St. Gilgen - Gschwendt boat station); 27 km (St. Gilgen - St. Gilgen). Pentek timing boxes are installed at the respective finish points (also used for split times). Important: Walk close to them. All walkers who finish their race in St. Wolfgang, Strobl or Gschwendt can simply take the boat back to St. Gilgen after showing their start number.

The organizers, led by Franz Sperrer, want to appeal specifically to health-conscious participants who are primarily interested in moderate exercise in the beautiful landscape of the Salzkammergut. Sperrer: "Active participants can complete the route with or without poles. We recommend a stop at the inns and cafés along the route at lunchtime and in the afternoon. The (Nordic) walkers should enjoy the landscape and nature and arrive back in St. Gilgen relaxed." Sperrer continues: "Unlike the 27 km classic, the Walk the Lake route runs in a clockwise direction. The start and finish are located at the "Brunnwind" restaurant in St. Gilgen. We ask for your understanding that the route is not closed to traffic, there are no marshals and no refreshment points and the StVO must be strictly adhered to."
