Description:
From the starting point of the hike (parking lot at the Stadtgarten/kindergarten), we walk along Kirchengasse to St. Stephan’s Parish Church. This is where the Way of the Cross—featuring steel and granite sculptures—begins, running along nearly the entire length of the Bergsiedlung. After the last station—a circle of 13 stone pillars—we follow a field and forest path to the right uphill. Through the beautiful Steyregger Forest with its old beech trees, we climb gently upward; Alpine Club Trail No. 51 joins us from the left, and after a short stretch along the edge of the forest, we reach the Brauner Farm at just under 500 m above sea level after 3 km or 1 hour. We follow the paved road, past the trail junction with a bench, and after about 1 km, at a freestanding oak tree, we re-enter the forest. The last quarter of an hour requires some effort—the forest trail is steep! After 4.2 km or 1.5 hours, we reach the 616-meter-high summit of the Pfenningberg. The return trip follows the same route downhill toward the center of Steyregg.Tip:
This hiking trail was created in 2019 as part of an Agenda 2000 project in the municipality of Steyregg. The Steyregg hikes are typical of the Mühlviertel region and are very easily accessible by public transportation.Equipment:
