Ranna Stausee

Neustift im Mühlkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Welcome to the Ranna reservoir.

The Ranna is the border river between the municipalities of Neustift i.M. and the neighboring municipality of Hofkirchen. The Ranna Reservoir, with its 45-meter-high dam, was constructed in 1950 for electricity generation and is a popular destination, especially for hikers and anglers.
In the spring, during the snowmelt, the overflowing Ranna Reservoir creates a spectacular natural spectacle. The masses of water plunge over the dam, and the Ranna River—which otherwise flows leisurely downstream—is transformed into a raging torrent within just a few minutes.

During fishing season, a dream comes true for many when they can go fishing at Lake Rannabad and the Ranna Reservoir.
