Works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Franz Schubert allow the up-and-coming Leonkoro Quartet to enter into a dialog with Henriëtte Bosman's rarely heard string quartet.
Role models run like a red thread through the history of music over the last few centuries. Numerous composers sought inspiration and orientation in the works of their predecessors: the Dutch composer and pianist Henriëtte Bosmans - persecuted as a half-Jew during the German occupation of Holland and barely known today - incorporates influences from her French contemporaries Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel in her string quartet, composed in 1927. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's second string quartet, his first 'fully-fledged' quartet, which he created at the age of just 18, clearly shows his proximity to Beethoven. Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor was inspired by his art song Der Tod und das Mädchen (Death and the Maiden ), written just a few years earlier. The musicians of the Leonkoro Quartet, which is one of the most exciting young ensembles of our time, trace these music-historical connections."The Leonkoro Quartet [...] has an enormous stage presence, glows for the music, takes full risks and amazes with its empathy for the respective tonality of the pieces [...]"(Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
