Pilgrimage Church of Maria Neustift

Maria Neustift, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Maria Neustift is a place to pause. Visiting the pilgrimage church and quietly encountering oneself and contemplating the almost life-size statue of Our Lady from 1450, one feels that the impossible seems possible.

The pilgrimage church is dedicated to the "Blessed Virgin Mary, Healing of the Sick." Mary, at the high altar, is still the most venerated figure today. The numerous votive tablets in the old presbytery are diverse signs of the trust and gratitude of the devout admirers of Mary.

The altar niche contains a life-sized statue of Mary with the Christ child (Gothic), surrounded by a delicate corona of rays and a lively circle of angels. Two floating angels hold a crown above Mary. The ribbon reads:"Holy Mary, Mother of Beautiful Love and Holy Hope, you Healing of the Sick in Neustift, pray for us."

Above the altar niche are two angelic figures, above the column capitals on the Evangelist side St. Benedict, and on the Epistle side St. Berthold. St. Florian and St. George guard the sanctuary.
