Castle Museum Linz

Spanning over 10,000 m² of exhibition space, the Linz Castle Museum offers a comprehensive overview of Upper Austria’s natural, cultural, and art history, from prehistory and early history through to the 21st century.

Complementing the permanent exhibition of the Upper Austrian State Museum, special exhibitions highlight current international and regional topics, as well as themes related to culture, nature, and contemporary history.

The castle museum towers high above the city and the river. The historic Renaissance castle and the modern new building of the south wing are architecturally successful and once again demonstrate the future-oriented attitude of the Capital of Culture 2009.

The permanent exhibitions at the castle museum offer a diverse insight and guide visitors through the cultural history of Upper Austria.

In addition, large exhibitions dealing with national and international themes as well as smaller presentations from the museum's collections are held annually. The castle museum is also a highlight for families: exhibitions are specially designed for young visitors.

The lift leads directly from the playground in a 70-metre-long tunnel to the museum foyer. This makes the castle museum directly accessible from the city.
