Weißkirchen an der Traun

Weißkirchen an der Traun, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Some nine kilometers out from Wels, the lovely village of Weißkirchen sprawls along the banks of the Traun River. Weißkirchen has a long history dating back to Stone Age times. There is evidence of a settlement at Weißkirchen prior to the arrival of the Romans. However, the present village stands on the earthworks of a fort that was probably built by the Romans. Centuries after the Romans arrived, Duke Tassilo founded the Kremsmünster Abbey here in 777 AD and the monks began to cultivate the hides of land that are today´s village of Weißkirchen.

Today, Weißkirchen is a thriving, dynamic village that offers an eclectic life style appealing to a wide variety of people from the most physically active to those seeking to enjoy the cultural arts and historical pursuits. When it comes to sports, you can choose from a tremendous variety of seasonal activities. What´s more, Weißkirchen has at its heart various friendly inns and restaurants where a choice range of refreshments and freshly cooked food is on offer and where visitors will be warmly welcomed.
