One of the most prominent mountains of the Mondsee area is waiting to be conquered!

Attention: Alpine experience, sure-footedness and a head for heights are absolutely necessary on this path. Some sections have to be climbed using ladders and are secured with ropes - therefore it is not recommended to take dogs on this climb! Some positions are suspended. Access only in dry weather.
Start at the restaurant "Drachenwand" and reach the Thekla chapel after about 15 minutes. Walk over the wooden bridge, turn immediately to the right and follow the signs to the Drachenwand - path no. 12a (dragonwall). When you've reached the grade, follow it straight to the cross on the summit. Use the same way back.

The time given is for the outward and return journey!

ATTENTION!
The mountain tour to the Drachenwand leads into exposed, high alpine terrain. It is an alpine climb (not a hiking trail!) of the highest level of difficulty. Surefootedness, a head for heights, safe movement in exposed terrain, climbing ladders, appropriate physical condition, alpine equipment and alpine experience are a MUST! Be careful when descending! Please only get on the trail if the weather is good. Be sure to check the weather forecast and exercise extreme caution when it's wet. Turn back immediately at the slightest sign of a storm. Get on the trail no later than 5 hours before sunset and estimate at least 4 hours for the tour. Children under the age of 14 or without alpine experience may please conquer an easier mountain.

Unfortunately, climbers die every year on the Hirschsteig on the Drachenwand. The main reason is overconfidence or a lack of fitness, followed by inadequate equipment and a lack of alpine experience, as well as the onset of a fear of heights. PLEASE - if you have no experience with such mountains - choose another destination. You are only back healthy and unharmed from the Drachenwand when you have safely climbed up and down again. Let's spare our emergency organizations, above all our great volunteer members of the Mondseeland mountain rescue service, from these stressful missions. Many thanks and have a nice mountaineering around Mondsee and Irrsee.
