Four young people on the banks of Lake Langbath in Upper Austria, with the mountains of the Salzkammergut in the background. The dark-haired woman sits with two bearded guys in the green meadow between the trees; beside them is a cloth with four fish skewers and slices of bread. The blonde woman is just coming out of the lake to join the others.

Special features
In the region of the Mühlviertler Alm, relaxation is what is popular. Unscathed nature, sunny hills, green meadows and numerous monuments motivate guests to take an expedition beyond everyday life. The offers associated with the region are just as diverse as the landscape itself. In addition to peace and quiet, it offers a number of athletic activities to do during your leisure time and holiday. The highlights are the Mühlviertler Alm, which is the real of horses, and the Way of St John (Johannesweg).

A paradise for trail riders

An ideal region for passionate trail riders who want to look for untamed nature in well-forested hills, discover ancient ruins and cross rivers on their ‘off-road’ horses. The recipe of the realm of horses that is the Mühlviertler Alm is just as simple as it is successful: attentive hosts, 700 kilometres of perfectly developed riding paths and a dense network of places to stop off and stay the night. Eight new relay and experience spots invite riders and horses alike to take a break from riding every once in a while, where you can test yourself with obstacles and tricky horseback riding-related tasks. Whether at the jumping course or in the hammock chair: It is definitely never boring in the realm of horses.

Stopping off along the Way of St John

As a spiritual loop trail, the Way of St John (Johannesweg) fits perfectly into the hills of the region of the Mühlviertler Alm. And it demonstrates that the aura of the Mühlviertel can lead to a positive, content attitude. The way is designed in the form of a lily, the symbol of light. 84 kilometres lead to twelve different stations, where topics like humour, helpfulness and courage are addressed. Energy-filled spot, mystical stones and small monuments invite hikers on holiday to pause for a moment. These are not only special features of the Way of St John, but also of the hosts in the region. Holiday farms, cabins, inns and small quality hotels ensure that you wil have a relaxed and unforgettable stay.
