Blacksmith - Lindermayr

The blackmith workshop worked for the collegial church of Spital over 500 years ago and from 1808 onwards for a period of 150 years the factory was used as tool smith for waggoners, wood-cutters and farmers.

The former smithy of the pin Spital am Pyhrn caused by commercial traffic to and from Venice in the time after 1300. The first detectable blacksmith Andreas was still working for the hospital.

Andreas Ferdinand Lindermayr took over the smithy at a time in the Baroque style of the pin promised fruitful work. Became famous for the ornate lines of the 1734 completed his degree grid of the Collegiate Church.
Until the middle of the Steyr Smith delivered from his jobs, including grave crosses, window baskets, pub signs and door hardware. His son Matthew expanded the business to a Frätschlerei, a general store and also ran the weapons Locksmith and watchmaking.

The renovation at the National Exhibition in 1998, enabled the establishment of a blacksmith shop. It also includes an exhibition on the history of the blacksmith and the blacksmith's trade with interesting exhibits.



Hint / Advice: The end grille of the Spital am Pyhrn collegiate church, made by Andreas Ferdinand Lindermayr, is considered one of the most beautiful ironworks in Austria. Try yourself as a “blacksmith” and work on the glowing iron with a hammer.

Summer: Guided tours - every Wednesday from 9:00 - 12:00 - free of charge with the Pyhrn-Priel Card.

Daily visits are possible for a fee by prior arrangement by telephone.

Winter: In the cold season only by appointment (book a week in advance)
