Joining him will be star flutist Emmanuel Pahud. In German In his final season as chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Markus Poschner is set to make his debut: for the first time, he will conduct “his” orchestra in a Sunday matinee. For this special occasion, he has teamed up with a very special soloist: Emmanuel Pahud, principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, will perform *\*Dreamtime\** for flute and orchestra by his compatriot Philippe Hersant, a work composed in 2013 that—as the name suggests—invites listeners to dream with its shimmering soundscapes. In addition, with this concert, Poschner continues his Beethoven cycle with the BOL. The program features two symphonies that—unfairly!—often remain in the shadow of their famous sister works: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 was composed at a time when he was confronted with the onset of his hearing loss. Nevertheless, the work is characterized by exuberant optimism: “I will seize fate by the throat; it shall certainly not bring me completely to my knees,” Beethoven wrote to his friend Franz Gerhard Wegeler at the time. But the Symphony No. 4, too, is brimming with musical elation. Robert Schumann described it as “a slender Greek maiden” standing between the “two northern giants,” Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5.
