Romantic opera in three acts.
When the young Gottfried disappears one day, it is his sister Elsa, of all people, who is accused of killing him. As no one believes in her innocence, she is confronted with the worst when a mysterious savior appears out of nowhere to stand up for her. But this nameless stranger uses the power vacuum of an insecure society to make himself the source of a new order that cannot be questioned. In the shadow of the radiant admiration for the hero, humanity fades, especially towards Elsa.
Richard Wagner's monumental opera *Lohengrin* thus stands on the threshold of Wagnerian music drama, developing a breathless maelstrom in its dense web of emotion, politics and mystery. The fragile balance between the charged history of the work and its almost fairytale-like initial situation is what makes *Lohengrin* so appealing. Director Michael Schulz, who has already demonstrated his flair for ambivalence with *Elektra*, is entrusted with this task for the new production in Linz.
