So does Michael Gibbs, who as a composer of modern big band literature alongside Pat Metheny, Gary Burton and many more can look back on a brightly shining international career. As early as the 1960s, as a student at Berklee College of Music, Gibbs was fascinated by Lady Day (Billie Holiday's nickname) and wrote several arrangements of the songs she made famous during her tragically short life. Together with Michael Gibbs, Ed Puddick will accompany the orchestra through the concert and conduct original compositions by Michael Gibbs in the second set.
