-------------------------------------------------

Rainer Maria Rilke, who was born in Prague in 1875 and died in Switzerland in 1926, is still one of the most influential German-language poets in the world.

The reception of the author remains unbroken
of works such as the Duino Elegies, The Sonnets to Orpheus, The Ways of Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke or The Notes of Malte Laurids Brigge. But the contradictions in his biography, the countless relationships and affairs, the exclusivity with which the passionate letter writer devoted himself to his work and its dissemination continue to fascinate.
To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, an exhibition at the StifterHaus is dedicated to Rilke's so-called Linz episode. After his childhood in Prague and his agonizing years at the military schools in St. Pölten and Mährisch Weißkirchen, Rilke spent several months in Linz in 1891/92, where he attended business school and wrote his first poems. In 1896 he came to the Salzkammergut for a summer retreat and was also inspired there.

Opening of the exhibition: 5.5.2026, 7:30 pm
Ausstellungsdauer: 6.5.2026–5.11.2026

The exhibition will be documented in an accompanying catalog.
