 **Upper Austria 1626 - A contested legacy**
The Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1626 resulted from tensions that had been building up for years: political foreign rule, economic burdens and conflicts over faith. The Frankenburg Criminal Court of 1625 had already condensed these experiences into an event that was deeply engraved in the collective memory.
The consequences of the war extended far beyond the military defeat. Repression, religious pressure and emigration shaped entire generations - and later became an important part of regional and Protestant memory and identity.
How the Peasants' War was remembered, however, changed time and again:
sometimes as an illegitimate uprising, sometimes as a struggle against foreign domination, sometimes as a testimony of faith, later also as a social-revolutionary struggle for liberation, as a national-religious popular uprising or as a reminder of tolerance and against violence. The different places of remembrance in Upper Austria alone show this: History is not a fixed possession, but the result of negotiation. Different political and religious groups have reinterpreted the events and used them for their present - right up to the present day.
Our series of events invites you to bring these multi-layered interpretations into conversation with each other - openly, controversially, with respectful listening and with the key question:

**Upper Austria 1626: My history, yours, ours?**
After a few short presentations, these will be discussed among the audience and reflected on together. Musical accompaniment and food and drink will be provided
