As a result, the streams have not only lost their natural dynamics, but many species that are tied to this habitat have also disappeared. They exist in the Kalkalpen National Park - over 200 kilometers of free-flowing, natural mountain streams. They are home to stone crayfish, native brown trout and other endangered species.
