100th birthday of Thomas Christian David and

130th birthday of Johann Nepomuk David

The music world will celebrate in 2025 the 100th birthday of the Upper Austrian composer: Thomas Christian David.

He leaves behind a wealth of compositions for orchestras and choirs, and especially for smaller ensembles. In personal conversations, he often emphasized: “The magic often happens in the small.” He didn’t just mean the intimacy of a chamber concert - no! - he was referring to the deeper connection between the musician and the audience.

The selection of two of his duos for this concert will make this experience palpable.

His father, the Upper Austrian composer Johann Nepomuk David, whose 130th birthday we are also celebrating, was his teacher from an early age. We will hear a string trio from him, and concluding with all five musicians of the “David Ensemble” for the harmonious ending, Franz Schubert’s Trout Quintet.
