The baroque Old Theatre is in a very quiet location at the entrance to the castle park and just a two-minute walk from the town square. It was originally a monastery building with a church (1662). The actual conversion into a theatre, which was actively supported by Prince Lamberg, was not carried out until 1796.
Regular cultural events, company presentations and doctors' symposia take place in the baroque Old Theatre. The highlight of the theatre's cultural use is the annual Steyr Music Festival in the summer months.
