After the village, we take the B154 and cycle through charming countryside to the Irrsee. We pass the lake on its eastern shore and shortly afterwards reach Mondsee and the lake of the same name. The lakeside promenade and park are a great place to take a break and enjoy the view over the lake with a coffee. But there are more lakes and views to come ... So we get back in the saddle and speed off towards Lake Attersee. We follow the southern shore of the lake to Weißenbach and then turn eastwards, following the Weißenbach river and enjoy the perfectly maintained road with its enjoyable bends and extreme fun factor. After a short 13 kilometres, we reach the connecting road from Lake Traunsee to Bad Ischl and follow it to the famous spa town. At the beginning of the 19th century, the town began its rise to become one of the most popular brine spas, which also served as an imperial summer residence in its heyday from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. The "Kaiservilla", the marble palace built especially for Empress Sisi and the entire "Kaiserpark" are much-visited tourist magnets. However, our magnet at the moment is called something else: the 1,800 metre high Loser and its panoramic road lure us with 13 hairpin bends and a lively climb to the large hiking car park at an altitude of almost 1,600 metres. There is an impressive Alpine panorama and dizzying views of the valley, where Lake Altaussee lies in tranquil peace at our feet. We don't regret the eight euro toll for a second, especially as there is a free concert with par force horns at the Loserhütte for a snack - another treat! With music in our ears and rhythm in the rest of our bodies, it's even more exhilarating to waggle down the hairpin bends into the valley! Passing Bad Aussee, we approach the next driving treat: the road over the Koppenpass again offers the finest bends and takes us to the next tour highlight - Hallstatt on Lake Hallstatt. We immediately realise that this picturesque town is a particular tourist magnet. The volume of traffic is enormous, the only way forward is in stop-and-go mode and all the car parks are full. It's just as well that there is a mini car park just for motorbikes compared to the facilities for car and bus tourists. It's "well hidden" behind the petrol station, but if you keep your eyes open, you'll spot the few signs. And if you try the car park, you will automatically be directed to the right place. Once the bike is parked, there are various options: a walk into the historic centre with a visit to the famous "ossuary" - a small church where bleached skulls and bones are kept. Another option is to take the funicular railway to the "Salzwelten" - the salt mine high above the lake. Another magnificent attraction is the "Skywalk Hallstatt" - a viewing platform that offers spectacular views of the unique Dachstein panorama, the village of Obertraun and the town of Hallstatt deep below. Admission to the "World Heritage View" is free, but the funicular railway ride costs 20 euros and if you want to explore the Salt Worlds, you will have to fork out another 11 euros. With so many tourist attractions on offer, it's difficult to choose and time is short! However, it is clear that motorbike enjoyment is back in the foreground and we cruise along the western shore of the lake towards Bad Goisern. We continue on to Bad Ischl again, but this time we speed westwards on the well-built and wide B158, past Lake Wolfgangsee and St. Gilgen, only slowing down a little in Fuschl. Here we could take a look at the RedBull headquarters, but decide to continue on the fast journey to Thalgau. We reach Obertrum via Henndorf and Seekirchen and from here stalk our way past the Obertrum and Mattsee lakes back to Mattighofen, where we end the tour satisfied after a day of riding that is guaranteed to be full of experiences and bends.
