 AMERANG - ALTÖTTING - BURGHAUSEN
Off to Bavaria, that could be today's motto; the Rupertiwinkel and routes along the (Bavarian) Inn are the destinations.

We swing westwards via Gundertshausen and Geretsberg. After Ostermiething, we roll down into the Salzach valley and can already see the first buildings on the Bavarian side. At Tittmoning we cross the Salzach and thus also the border to Bavaria. The picturesque little town impresses with its spacious town square in the Inn-Salzach style and invites you to take your first break with a few cafés and inns.

However, we leave the Salzach valley, cruise further west and reach the village of Stein an der Traun via Palling. Here we take a short detour to the cave castle[(https://www.steiner-burg.de)](https://www.steiner-burg.de) of the robber baron and girl snatcher "Heinz von Stein". However, his story is not historically proven ...
However, the history of Seeon Monastery (https://www.kloster-seeon.de), which is the next possible stop after a winding drive, is definitely documented. The former Benedictine monastery now serves as a cultural and educational centre for the district of Upper Bavaria, but is also a popular tourist hotspot thanks to its picturesque location on Lake Seeon.

Our next point of interest, the EFA - Museum of German Automotive History (https://efa-mobile-zeiten.de), is not quite as popular. Ernst Freiberger's passion for collecting automotive history rarities meant that he ran out of space in his overcrowded warehouses and finally opened this museum in 1990. Today, more than 250 fantastic exhibits delight car enthusiasts of all ages.

For us motorbike enthusiasts, on the other hand, it's the winding routes that have brought us here and will take us to our next possible stop. The vantage point above Wasserburg gives us an impressive view of the historic old town, which is nestled below us in a loving embrace by the River Inn. In the centre of the old town, there are not only impressive historical buildings, but also a large number of bistros, cafés and pubs to keep you refreshed.

Even if we don't see the Inn all the time as we continue round the bends, it is still the thread that leads us to Kraiburg. There we stalk through the historic market square and a little later even through a golf course to approach Altötting, the self-proclaimed "heart of Bavaria", along winding paths. The town is best known for the Marian devotion to the "Black Madonna" in the Chapel of Mercy - around one million pilgrims come to the place of pilgrimage every year; Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI were also among them.

It is not a long pilgrimage, but rather the much-quoted "stone's throw" from Altötting to Burghausen. The Salzach town has a lot to offer in terms of art and culture, but the unique highlight of the town is the castle. At 1,052 metres long, it is considered the longest castle complex in the world and has therefore - logically enough - also made it into the Guinness Book of Records. If you're not so keen on hiking and don't necessarily want to explore the imposing complex on foot, you should cross the old Salzach bridge back into Austria and enjoy the winding ascent to Duttendorf. There, the comfortable biker is treated to a spectacular view over the castle grounds, the old town of Burghausen lying at its feet, the leisurely flowing border river Salzach and, weather permitting, even as far as the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. In the beer garden of the "Salzachstüberl" you can also enjoy all this in a cosy atmosphere with a tasty snack or coffee and cake.

After this cultural and culinary interlude, we extend this enjoyment with more winding roads. On small, little-used side roads and goods roads, we head cross-country and criss-cross back to the starting point, the KTM Motohall in Mattighofen. And if you keep to the opening times, you can round off and end the day's tour with a visit to the museum (https://ktm-motohall.com) or a nightcap in the neighbouring "Garage" (https://garage-mattighofen.com)!
