Finally, the route goes about 6 km downhill on an asphalt road. **Quality of experience:** ***** **Recommended season:** - April - May - June - July - August - September - October **Properties:** - Multi-stage route - Scenic - Refreshment stops available **Description:** On this downhill stage, you should stop now and then and look back: during the descent from the Welser Hütte, the Schermberg seems to literally grow beyond itself. **Directions:** From the **Welser Hütte**, follow path no. 215 further downhill. Go under the material cableway and over a steep slope (steps) to a secured rock ledge, from which you descend using a short ladder. Continue down in zigzag through steep scree, broken rock, and forest slopes. Then you have to overcome the "foundation walls", the lowest bastions in the huge rock amphitheater between the Großer Priel and the Schermberg, using steel cables and the long metal staircase at Wiesinger Eck. Over the secured Hans-Pumberger Band and some switchbacks, you finally reach the **Ackergraben**. After crossing the creek bed, pass the valley station of the material cableway and walk along a forest road through the rear Hetzau towards the **Almtaler Haus** (714 m). This cozy Alpine Club accommodation is also the junction to the alpine variant **Kasberg** (route K1, page 192). 2:30 h Afterwards, alongside the Hetzaubach, you walk about 6 km out of the valley. After the bridge over the Alm, you find on the right the **Jagersimmerl** (577 m), where stage 21 of the Salzkammergut BergeSeen Trail also ends. 1:30 h **Tip:** **Note**: Traunstein Taxi, Route 60 from Grünau im Almtal railway station to Almtalerhaus – order at least 1 hour in advance. **Safety guidelines:** - In alpine terrain, beware of the danger from falling rocks. - Until early summer, you may encounter steep snowfields or firn grooves – especially when icy, there is acute risk of falling and thus life danger! - Due to storm damage, forestry work, or construction measures, some trail sections may be temporarily difficult or impossible to pass. - Cows on the alpine pasture are often curious. Due to mother cow husbandry, they develop a strong instinct to protect their calves. So move calmly on cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance from the animals, and do not pet calves under any circumstances! In case of threatening behavior (pawing, stomping), slowly move backwards (do not turn your back). Keep dogs on a leash; they are not allowed to bark at or chase cows. In case of an attack, you must definitely let them off the leash. **Equipment:** For all stages, you will need hiking or mountain boots with profile rubber soles as well as wind- and rainproof clothing. Spare clothes for changing and a small emergency first aid kit should also be in the backpack. How much provisions you pack depends on the number of refreshment opportunities. In any case, you should take enough to drink.
