You should also take some extra time for a stop in **Altaussee**. The town is special in many ways – just think of the artists and writers who found inspiration here. And there are not many spots as beautiful as the shore of the **Altausseer See**, above which the mighty **Trisselwand** rises. **Directions:** From the tourist office at Kurhausplatz in **Bad Aussee**, turn right onto the main street. After a few steps, turn left, go through Kammerhofgasse and across Chlumeckyplatz, then ascend left through Bäckergasse. Continue straight on Haslauergasse, then turn right onto Frank-Thieß-Gasse. This leads steeply to the late Baroque Klosterhof and the Blutschwitz chapel and into the district of **Obertressen** (784 m). Continue on Sigmund-Freud-Straße under the Tressenstein. It continues as Mößernstraße, from which after the bridge over Kroissenbach, you turn right onto Bartlhofstraße to the village of Platten (Temel campsite). There, the Plattenkogelweg branches off left, where you cross over to the Altausseer Traun river. To the right, it goes to Villa Seeklause on the **Altausseer See** (712 m). Left across the river, past Hotel Seevilla and then – turning right onto Brahmsweg – to Fischerndorf, the town center of **Altaussee** (719 m). 1:30 h After crossing the forest road, continue to Loser toll road, which you follow a few steps to the right. Then hike on the mountain-side branching road to Augstalm and right up to the beautifully located and therefore well-visited **Loser Hut** (1,540 m) of the Alpine Club. 2:30 h **Tip:** **Summit detour** to the Loser (1,837 m) **Safety guidelines:** - In alpine terrain, watch out for the danger of falling rocks. - Until early summer you can encounter steep snowfields or firn channels – especially when icy, there is an acute danger of falling and thus risk to life! - Due to storm damage, forestry work, or construction work, individual trail sections can sometimes be difficult or even impassable. - Cows on the alpine pastures are often curious. Because of mother cow husbandry, they develop a strong instinct to protect their calves. So move calmly in cow pastures, keep at least 20 m distance from the animals, and do not pet calves! If they show threatening behavior (scraping, stamping), slowly walk backwards (do not turn your back). Dogs must be kept on a leash; they must not bark at or chase cows. In case of an attack, you must let them off the leash. **Equipment:** For all stages you need hiking or mountaineering boots with profiled rubber soles as well as wind- and waterproof clothing. Spare clothes for changing and a small first-aid kit should also be in your backpack. How much provisions you pack depends on the number of places to stop. In any case, you should bring enough to drink.
