The Rumplmayrsteig and the belays were repaired and renewed in 2017. Since then, the TK Windischgarsten Alpine Club section has been in charge of the trail. At the car park near the Karlhütte, leave "Hengsti" on the right and first walk along the Almenweg in the direction of Puglalm/Kampermauer. After about 10 minutes, trail 474 branches off to the left towards Rumplmayrsteig. Now you zigzag up 100 m, a rope-secured section and (after about 45 minutes) you are already at the Karlkreuz at 1,120 m. From the airy bench you can enjoy the view over the Hengstpaß, the Haller Mauern and the Tote Gebirge. The view of the Kamper Wall from here is tremendous! If you have made it this far, you can confidently continue. A few rope-secured sections follow, as well as a comfortable section through the beech forest. Before you reach the saddle, a path branches off to the right into the rocks. After (another) 45 minutes you reach the summit cross of the Kampermauer (1,394 m). For the way back, we recommend the circuit via the Menaueralm (+1 hour). Of course, you can also return the same way. How difficult is it? A head for heights and surefootedness are an absolute must. We recommend via ferrata equipment for children.
