Der Bach hat sich ein V-förmiges Erosionstal geschaffen, welches sich mit seinen steilen Hängen, Felskanten und naturnahen Wäldern, auf den Wegen rund um das Gebiet erwandern und erleben lässt. Es ist eine gewachsene Kulturlandschaft mit einem Mosaik aus landwirtschaftlichen Nutzflächen und unterschiedlicher Bewaldungsintensität. Durch Dörfer, Weiler und viele Siedlungssplitter wird der ländliche Charakter des Sauwaldes verstärkt. Von weitem schon erkennt man sie durch die hohen Spitzen ihrer Kirchtürme. Viele historische Kulturlandschaftselemente lassen sich entdecken. Beispiele dafür sind Gattersäulen, Lesesteinhaufen und Schwöllen (kleine Teiche). Mit den weitgehend naturnah erhalten gebliebenen Bachläufen, die eine Kostbarkeit für die Region darstellen, ergibt sich ein recht harmonisches Landschaftsbild. Oberösterreich ist vielerorts als ein wahres Schlaraffenland überliefert. The upper part of the slopes is dominated by mixed beech forests, which are replaced by oaks and hornbeams towards the centre. On the moist valley floor, ravine forests of maple, ash, elm and black alder grow. The forest in this valley often thrives on so-called block streams. These are slopes of granite rocks, originally weathered underground, which have come to the surface and now "flow" incredibly slowly down into the valley. The Kößlbachtal valley is also important as the habitat of the freshwater pearl mussel, which is threatened with extinction.
