This challenging mountain tour starts in Weißenbach am Attersee. Alternatively, you can cross the Fachberg bridge and park at the start of the path to the Nixenfall. The marked and well-signposted path immediately leads into the forest and past the St. Nikolaus Chapel. It quickly climbs higher on well-maintained serpentines. Benches invite you to take a break and enjoy the spectacular view of the deep turquoise waters of Lake Attersee. After the turn-off to the "small" Schoberstein, there is a short crossing of a gravel field secured by a wire rope. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are an advantage here. The final section then leads through sparse mountain forest up to a crossroads. To the left, over rocks in the final section, you reach the summit cross of the Schoberstein (1037 m). Before the detour to the summit cross of the Schoberstein, you have the option of continuing to the right to the Mahdlgupf. Or you can take the short way back from the Schoberstein summit cross and continue the hike via the Mahdlgupf (1261 m) to the Dachsteinblick (1559 m). The descent is via the same route.
